Happenings at Skylark Opera Theatre December 2024
Announcing the Cast of The Christmas Spider, Opening December 19
Skylark Opera Theatre proudly presents the Minnesota premiere of this charming new holiday opera, based on a Ukrainian folktale. The entire family will love this touching story with its message of forgiveness, kindness, and hope, featuring the beautiful music of composer Clint Borzoni and a tender libretto by John de los Santos, who will also be the Stage Director. Baritone Anthony Potts sings the role of Fedorov, a poor woodcutter with two children and an impatient landlady, who faces a bleak Christmas until a friendly spider creates holiday magic. Skylark audiences will remember Tony as Charlie in Three Decembers and as the devoted young husband Jim in The Gift of the Magi. Skylark is delighted to welcome back soprano Karin Wolverton as Olha, following her 2017 appearance as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Minneapolis Woman’s Club. The roles of Dmytro and Zoya, Fedorov’s children, will be sung by Em Kaplan and Eve Scharback in their Skylark debuts. Skylark’s Artistic Director, James Barnett, leads the instrumental ensemble.
Tickets are available now. Five performances, December 19-22 at the Lowry Lab Theater, 350 St. Peter St., St. Paul. Only 100 seats per performance. Get your tickets here.
