Happenings at Skylark July 2024

The Woman (Bergen Baker) and The Man (Max Wojtanowicz) share a romantic moment in Marry Me a Little

Marry Me a Little opens August 8th--new dates, same artistic team

Marry Me a Little opens August 8th at 7:30pm at The Crane Theater, 2303 Kennedy St NE, Minneapolis, with additional performances on August 9th, 10th, and 11th.

Though the dates have changed, the same great cast and artistic staff will make you smile, tear up, and maybe wince with recognition. Soprano Bergen Baker and baritone Max Wojtanowicz star, with stage direction by Nikki Swoboda and music direction by James Barnett. Through Sondheim "trunk songs" cut from his musicals, Marry Me a Little follows two single people searching for their soulmates on a lonely Saturday night. Do they eventually find each other or is it only a dream? Five performances only of this rarely-done "sparkling gem of a show" (Broadway World). Purchase your tickets at skylark.booktix.com.

The 3rd Annual OktOpera Fest is in the works!

We're getting ready for the annual OktOpera Fest, so mark your calendars for October 2nd. Once again, Fat Pants Brewing Co. in Eden Prairie is the venue for this fun, beer, food, and OPERA event. The one-hour musical program presents highlights from the "Broadway opera" Lost in the Stars and other selections by the great German-born composer Kurt Weill. Baritone Jeremiah Sanders and soprano Victoria Koroljev perform, with Skylark's Artistic Director James Barnett on piano. This is a rare opportunity to hear some of the most powerful music ever written for the stage.

In 2007, Skylark performed the Twin Cities' first, and so far only, professional production of Lost in the Stars, to enthusiastic audiences and critical acclaim. “… an extraordinarily moving piece of theater about the sometimes conflicting quests for peace and justice that distills these big issues down to a human-sized essence and leaves you looking for places to apply its lessons in your own life.” (Rob Hubbard/Pioneer Press)
