Happenings at Skylark Opera Theatre March 2025
A big thank you for a special night…
Skylark’s 2nd annual Sip of Opera was a special evening made even more special by the enthusiastic comments from our audience. Sip of Opera: D’une Femme celebrated the music of French composer, Joseph Boulogne (Chevalier de St. Georges) and American composer William Grant Still. Soprano Tiana Sorenson and Skylark’s Artistic Director James Barnett provided the evening’s entertainment, and nationally-acclaimed sommelier Erin Rolek added the right touch of wine selections to complement the opera selections. We’ll do it again next year!
Coming next—Sundays at Landmark: Skylark Presents Zarzuela!
Next up in our yearlong celebration of opera across cultures is the annual FREE program at St. Paul’s Landmark Center, 75 5th St W, on Sunday, April 6th at 1:00pm. Soprano Lily Guerrero curates and performs a program of Zarzuela music, along with mezzo-soprano Victoria Vargas, tenor Mackenzie Whitney, and bass Rodolfo Nieto, accompanied by James Barnett on the piano. The performance showcases the Spanish operatic genre, a lively mixture of spoken word and song. Don’t miss an exciting performance of this rarely-heard tradition---and it’s FREE.
These activities are supported, in part, by the City of Saint Paul Cultural Sales Tax Revitalization Program.
The arts need you more than ever!
Tough headwinds face the arts community and we need everyone’s support. We are lucky to have the vibrant Minnesota arts community and the amazing support of the arts through our state and local governments. We also have active community organizations like MN Citizens for the Arts (artsmn.org) that advocate for the arts community, but we cannot take this support for granted. Arts organizations and individual artists thrive in an environment that welcomes open creativity and the contributions of everyone. Help us to continue presenting the wide range of arts activities in your community and in the great State of Minnesota. Please make your voices heard as we go forward in a challenging environment. Here are some things you can do:
Participate in Arts Advocacy Day on Tuesday, March 4th. Information at arts.mn.org
Contact your state legislators and the members of our Congressional delegation—Senators Klobuchar and Smith and your Congressional district representatives
Attend arts performances and exhibits to show your appreciation for the creative efforts of our arts community
Support arts organizations like Skylark Opera Theatre when you are able. Make a secure donation here.
