Happenings at Skylark March 2024

A Sip of Opera was ”absolutely delightful”

The overwhelming audience response to Skylark’s celebration of the legendary American soprano Leontyne Price and her opera legacy was summed up nicely by one patron as a “perfect evening.” Nationally acclaimed soprano, Symone Harcum, in her Skylark Opera debut, wowed the audience with her interpretation of songs written exclusively for Leontyne by composers Samuel Barber and Lee Hoiby and arias from internationally acclaimed roles Ms. Price portrayed. Joining her on the piano was Skylark’s Artistic Director, James Barnett, who curated the musical program. Twin Cities sommelier, Sarina Garibović, designed a perfect blend of fine wine to accompany the exquisite music.

Next up for Skylark—Sundays at Landmark on April 14th

Skylark will return to the Landmark Center for a free concert April 14th at 1:00pm in the Cortile. You will enjoy a program dedicated to Women of Broadway featuring Broadway selections by woman composers.

Arts Action Week—March 4-8th

Arts Action Week is still going on! Skylark Opera Theater and arts organizations throughout the state face new challenges every year. Since the beginning of 2024, four venerable Twin Cities arts organizations have either greatly reduced their offerings or closed because of financial pressures. The arts need everyone’s support to keep our vibrant arts community alive!

Here are 4 ways you can support Skylark:

  • Write to your Minnesota legislators encouraging them to continue supporting arts organizations like Skylark Opera Theatre. Thank them for their past support of Minnesota’s vibrant arts community and let them know how much you value the performing arts.

  • Write to members of Minnesota’s Congressional delegation—Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith and the Representative from your Congressional district. The arts are for everyone and their support representing Minnesota as a “State of the Arts” has been strong. Their continued support is necessary for Skylark and other arts organizations to survive. Easy-to-use templates for letters to elected officials can be found by clicking here.

  • Attend Skylark performances and encourage family and friends to attend with you.

  • Donate to Skylark Opera Theatre. Ticket sales alone do not cover the costs of bringing Skylark’s unique brand of opera and music theater to the stage. Every dollar you donate helps keep Skylark singing!
